Parents - Advice & actions to keep your teenagers safe online

THIS IS A MUST READ FOR ANY PARENT WITH TEENAGERS!

As a member of the Frankston community having volunteered at the Melbourne Juvenile Justice Centre (MJJC) in Parkville, inner city Melbourne soup vans and Ozanam House in North Melbourne, safety of our community has always been in the forefront of my mind.  Recently starting the KIS IT business, I see a huge gap where parents are not really sure what their teenagers are doing online, more so I don't think those teenagers understand the consequences of privacy online.

Firstly, if you have not read this article on what to do in ensuring your PC is up to date with security software (anti-virus & anti-malware), you need to do that first up.

OK, so you have got your PC up to date and have no security threats.  What to do next?  Well as a parent with a teenager it is helpful to understand some simple basics that will be of some value to you.

Facebook - all children over the age of 13 are legally entitled to open up an account and start connecting with other people all around the world.  This should not be frowned upon at all, though some simple steps to ensure they are secure is important.  See the following video file for some basic instructions:  Click here
