Why every parent should monitor their children on the Internet

Do you actively watch you child on the internet?

Do you have any software that manages what your child does on the Internet?

The internet is relatively safe right???  Maybe ....

As a parent of a teenager, it is very clear to me the importance for my son to access the internet, however it is ever becoming a source of information for what i don't want my son to view.

A great source of information for definitions is Wikipedia, an online resource where if you need a definition of almost anything, here is a great place to start... and finish!

So why is it then that this great educational resource can be a source for inappropriate content?  Well the design of Wikipedia is specifically focused on dedicated people around the world providing expertise knowledge to edit/update and create definitions for nearly any conceivable topic you can think of.  An example is very recently a children's book, which is very popular "Mrs Frisby and the rats of NIMH" where someone has edited the Wiki search to where inappropriate sexual & violent acts were added to the content.  We are talking about the fact children are searching Wiki for details to conduct school reports on this book, how inappropriate is this?

If you want a full read, go here to The Age website, it has a little more information.

In summary, the Internet really took flight commercially related to Universities needing to communicate across our planet, however it boomed due to "pornography" and we need to be mindful that strong elements of that exist today.  How to keep your children/kids safe online is a key focus of Keep it Simple IT, contact us today to find out more.
